Here is one of my favorite pictures of my husband, Rich. He loves to ride his bike – a serious bike rider – he’s ridden to the East Coast from our home in Ohio several times!
He was in a terrible, terrible accident two weeks ago while out for a bike ride – I was out running errands, and got a phone call from the EMS Squad – to meet them at the Emergency Room. Ugh, that is a terrible call to get. Awful.
have an open fracture of the right patella and a fracture of his
neck. After undergoing three surgeries to his knee, Rich was discharged home
after 8 days.
At
home, he is getting better and stronger every day! Rich is able to move around with some weight bearing on his right leg.
His brain is unimpaired (thank goodness!), so he will be working from home as
he recovers. As he says, “I don’t need my knee to practice law!”
I have been one busy nurse – although each day finds him becoming more and more independent – which is so Rich. He was never big on laying around doing nothing!!
Thanks so much for all of your prayers, love and support for our family at this time. We feel very loved and truly appreciate all of you. We are also thankful to the wonderful staff of Aultman Hospital – they gave Rich the best care – everyone at Aultman, the nurses, the ER team, the doctors, therapists, all of them were awesome.
We are also thankful that this accident was not any worse than it was! God was truly watching over him that day.
Hope to get back to regular posting soon – I know that’s what you visit my blog for!
And one final note – Wear a bike helmet when you are on your bike!! Make sure your kids do too!
I think Rich’s helmet saved his life that day – or for sure protected him from having more serious injuries!!! My new soap box – Helmets, Helmets, Helmets!!!!
Was it a car or does he mountain bike? My son mountain bikes everyday because there is a mountain close by. It is a constant worry, especially when he tells me he took a header.
So happy everything is ok!! elli
